Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring an active AZ or compact license and proficiency in telemetry strip interpretation.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 48-bed acute care MedSurg/Telemetry unit serving surgical, neuro, respiratory, and general medical cases
- Patient population includes COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetes, telemetry, TIA, CVA, as well as general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5
- 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
- Unit uses Cerner EMR; experience preferred as only one day of orientation is provided
- RNs required to float to East Campus and possibly PCU as qualified
- Monitored telemetry remotely with RNs required to interpret and sign off on strips at least once per shift
- Uses Bipap, Cpap, high flow oxygen, and breathing treatments
- Main duties include care for a diverse medical-surgical and telemetry patient population, including post-op ortho/spine, neuro, and high-acuity medical cases
- Unit is supported by charge nurse (non-assigned), nurse aides, and remote telemetry techs
- Self-scheduling in 4-week blocks with manager oversight
- Required to work 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required for major winter holidays, including a combination of days and evening shifts
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Float assignments may be required based on unit needs
- One 12-hour orientation shift is provided
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility if residing in AZ, NV, NE, IA, or MN, as determined by driver’s license
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required prior to consideration
- Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Competency in reading basic telemetry strips, with previous experience with general and orthopedic surgical, as well as CVA and TIA patients
- Ability to interpret telemetry strips independently
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the past 3 years
- Copy of driver’s license required
- Candidates must not have been employed directly by CommonSpirit (including CHI/Dignity) within the past year

Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.
Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
