Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Acute Care Unit night shift position, requiring strong medical-surgical experience and an active MT or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Acute Care Unit of a hospital setting with a 40-bed capacity
• Care for a primarily medical patient population including COPD, CHF, kidney failure, sepsis, UTI, GI bleeds, wounds, and some post-surgical recovery cases
• Patient ratio is typically 1:5-6 and may include primary care for 1-2 patients
• Stroke-certified unit with some exposure to surgical and oncology patients, as well as medical overflow from ED and Progressive Care units
• Team comprises 6-8 RNs per shift and 4-6 CNAs per shift, with 1-2 shift supervisors
• 12-hour night shifts from 1930-0700, with a 6-week rotating schedule
• Required to work 6 weekend shifts within each 6-week schedule
• EMR is Meditech, with Baxter IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Voalte communication devices
• On-site training provided, including one day of general orientation and Meditech training
• Responsibilities include bedside shift reporting, hourly rounding, and updating white boards in all patient rooms
• Flexible teamwork and strong communication skills are essential
• Team includes 24/7 access to hospitalists and respiratory therapists
• Potential to float to sister units for cross-coverage and exposure to a broader range of patients
• Holiday coverage requirement includes 1-2 holidays during winter, with night shift covering holiday eves
• Scrubs must be clean with no restrictions on color, hair, tattoos, or piercings
• Free parking available with shuttle service in winter months
• First-time travelers with strong experience are encouraged to apply
• Opportunities exist for contract extension or permanent hire
• Requested time off (RTO) must be approved before hire and must not interfere with three 12-hour shifts per week

Requirements

• Active MT or compact RN license
• Minimum of 1 year of strong, broad med/surg experience
• Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
• Experience with acute care and management of a variety of medical conditions required
• Ability to manage epidurals, PCA, medication administration, drains, ostomies, chest tubes, and wound care
• Experience using Meditech EMR is preferred but not required
