Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN with lab draw and IV start proficiency for a 29-bed telemetry unit on 12-hour day shifts.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 depending on census
• Duties include telemetry monitoring and providing care for a mixed Med/Surg patient population
• Nurses are responsible for drawing labs and starting IVs
• Standard equipment includes Alaris Pumps and Hercules Beds
• Two patient care techs are available when at full census
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend and major holiday required
• No local candidates allowed within a 50-mile radius
• Primary responsibilities include comprehensive nursing assessment, care planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Scrubs must be navy blue, white, or a combination of these colors
• Team support includes working with patient care techs during full census periods
• Major holiday coverage is required according to department needs
• Testing required includes EKG exam on the first day; study guides are provided
• First time travelers will be considered
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• At least 1 year of RN experience and specific Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
• Proficiency in EKG interpretation, lab draws, and IV starts required
• Must pass an EKG exam on the first day with two attempts allowed
