Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring surgical and telemetry expertise along with proficiency in lab draws.

Responsibilities

• Work on a 24-bed surgical unit with a mix of med/telemetry patients
• Patient population includes surgical tele, urology, renal, amputations, podiatry, and general surgery cases
• Staffing ratio is typically 1:5-6
• Work night shifts from 7p-7a, with every other weekend and major holiday required
• Bedside shift report is required
• Must be comfortable with non-critical drips and basic oxygen therapy
• Tele techs and patient care techs provide unit support
• Navy blue, white, or any combination of these colors are accepted for scrubs
• Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, creating and evaluating care plans, and administering medications
• Expected to manage post-surgical and telemetry patient care and document according to unit standards
• Work closely with interprofessional team members and serve as a patient advocate
• Bedside shift reporting is required for continuity of care
• Major holiday coverage is mandatory on a rotating basis
• No blocked scheduling except for possible weekend blocks
• First-time travelers may be considered

Requirements

• Active RN license for VA or a compact state
• Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• At least one year of RN experience and recent surgical and telemetry experience required
• Must be proficient in lab draws
• Must pass EKG exam at orientation (study guide provided, two attempts allowed)
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility
