Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for an Ortho Med/Surg unit, requiring VA or compact RN license and recent post-op ortho experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 25-bed Orthopedic Med/Surg unit focused on post-op hip, knee, spine, and other orthopedic procedures
- Patient ratios typically range from 5-6+ patients per RN
- General nursing equipment used for Med/Surg and ortho care
- Uses Meditech as the electronic medical record system
- Night shifts from 7:00PM to 7:00AM, working three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every other weekend required
- May float to other Med/Surg units as needed
- Responsible for providing bedside shift reports, safety rounding, and compassionate communication using AIDET principles
- Work with a team of 4-5 nurses and 1-3 patient care techs, with secretarial support during the day
- Navy scrubs and closed-toed shoes required as dress code
- Holiday and rotating weekend coverage required
- No advanced procedures or specialty certifications beyond BLS required for this unit
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required
- Current AHA or ARC BLS certification required
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Med/Surg or orthopedic post-operative care
- At least 2 years of clinical experience in specialty preferred
- Experience with Meditech preferred
- No work history gaps of 90 days or more in the past 12 months
- Cannot be a local candidate; must live outside a 50-mile radius
