Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift orthopedic unit position requiring post-op ortho experience and a VA or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Position based on a 25-bed orthopedic Med/Surg unit focusing on post-operative hip, knee, spine, and other orthopedic procedures
- Patient ratios are typically 5 to 6 or more patients per nurse
- Unit staffed with 4-5 RNs and 1-3 patient care techs per shift, with department secretary support during day shifts
- General nursing equipment specific to Med/Surg ortho care is used
- Uses Meditech EMR, prior experience preferred
- Three 12-hour night shifts per week from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with every other weekend required
- Contract staff may float to similar Med/Surg units as needed
- Responsibilities include providing bedside shift reports, safety rounding, and consistently using AIDET communication
- Expected to treat all patients and families with courtesy, respect, and clear communication about care
- Navy scrubs and closed-toed shoes are required as dress code
- No specific advanced bedside or unit procedures are performed on this unit
- First-time travelers will be considered if all requirements are met
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required
- Minimum of one year recent Med/Surg RN experience with post-operative ortho patients
- Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted)
- Positive attitude and ability to provide high-quality patient care
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the last 12 months
- US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration
- Candidates must reside and maintain a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility
