Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit with a California RN license and advanced critical care skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) of a hospital setting
• Patient ratios are typically 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity
• Uses specialized equipment including tele monitors, EV1000, bladder scanner, and ventilators
• Documentation is completed using Meditech EMR
• Scheduled for three 12-hour night shifts per week from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• May float to Telemetry, Step-down, and other ICU units
• Responsibilities include caring for critically ill surgical patients, managing advanced life-support equipment, and performing or assisting with advanced ICU procedures such as chest tube insertion, tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, and intubation
• Team support includes access to a unit secretary and patient care techs
• Blue scrubs are required as the unit dress code
• NIHSS certification must remain current at all times
• First-time travelers are not specified as being eligible for this position

Requirements

• Active California RN license required
• A minimum of 2 years clinical ICU experience in the placement area is required
• Certifications needed: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Experience in titration of drips, neuro management, trauma, trach care, ventilation, chest drainage, thoracentesis, urinary catheterization, dialysis (SLED), EVD, and CRRT required
• Advanced skills in arterial line management, central venous catheter management, cardiac monitoring, pulmonary artery catheter management, and lumbar/EVD drain management preferred
• Must provide required documents for consideration, including US Social Security Number and date of birth
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more in the past 12 months
• Applicants must live more than 50 miles from the facility
