Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit requiring an active IL license, Level 1 trauma experience, and prior neuro travel experience.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injury, and some medical overflow
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin based on PTT, and must be competent in managing titratable drips
- Uses Epic EMR system
- Shifts are 12 hours, night shift, with every other weekend and holiday coverage required
- Floating required within general units, with team assignments when outside the home unit
- No specific scrub color required, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed while on duty
- Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, with the charge nurse rarely taking patient assignments
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available with day ratios of 1:9-10 and night ratios of 1:10-12
- RNs do not need to read telemetry strips; Phillips monitors with house-wide telemetry
- Orientation includes 2 days with an educator, computer training, and patient care alongside a preceptor
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- No COVID vaccine required for this assignment
- Local rates apply for clinicians residing within 50 miles
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience
- Prior Level 1 trauma experience required
- Previous travel nurse experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit required
- Experience titrating heparin drips required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
