Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU night shift position requiring at least 2 years of pediatric cardiac ICU experience and a SC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in the Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU (CVPICU) of a large teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center
  • 29-bed unit specializing in cardiac surgical and medical diagnoses for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease
  • Average daily census is 26 and nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 based on acuity
  • Provides care for post-cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices, heart transplant, and cardiac catheterization patients
  • Unit equipped for ECMO, CRRT, and advanced cardiac and ventilatory support
  • All beds are monitored beds
  • Uses Epic for charting and documentation
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM); 4 weekend shifts required in a 4-week period
  • Floating within scope required as needed by facility
  • Provide specialized nursing care for children with congenital or acquired heart disease, including those requiring advanced cardiac support
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including patient care technicians, unit secretaries, respiratory therapists, pediatric dietitians, and pharmacists
  • Pre-employment online modules must be completed prior to start
  • Holiday coverage and rotation required
  • First-time travelers are welcome for this assignment
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated at management discretion
  • Candidates must disclose all requested time off at the time of application; RTO approval is based on unit needs
  • Travelers living within a 60-mile radius are considered local and eligible at a local pay rate
  • Travel pairs are not accepted for this unit
  • Unit has received national recognition as a Beacon Award-winning unit and is ranked for outstanding outcomes
  • Emergency response duties may be assigned during hurricane season (June through November)

Requirements

  • Active SC or multi-state compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience in Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU
  • Pediatric cardiac and cardiovascular experience required
  • Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) experience highly preferred
  • Current AHA BLS and PALS certifications required; ACLS preferred (AHA only)
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Social Security Number and Driver’s License required for consideration
  • Previous perm staff must be separated from the health system for at least 1 year before being eligible as a traveler
