Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a PCU RN with recent neuro and telemetry experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and flexibility with weekend and floating requirements.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes neuro patients such as CVAs, hydrocephalus, brain tumors/resections, seizures, TBIs, and trauma cases
- Staffing ratios are typically 1:3-4, with 1:5 possible only in emergencies
- Night shifts are 4x12 hours from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Must work 50% of weekends based on unit need
- Floating within the hospital and to affiliate hospitals (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) is required for all travelers
- Cerner EMR is used; prior experience preferred but not required
- Travelers may be asked to take charge nurse responsibilities with training as needed
- Precepting and student shadowing may be required at this teaching hospital
- Responsibilities include caring for complex neuro, post-surgical, and trauma patients with advanced monitoring and wound care
- All travelers are expected to float as operationally needed, and refusal to float may result in termination of the contract
- Charge nurse duties may be assigned based on unit needs after adequate training
- RTO requests up to 5 non-holiday days are auto-approved; more require facility approval
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Any former permanent or PRN IU employees must be separated for 12 months before eligibility
- Travelers with previous IU assignments are subject to mandatory breaks after 12 months of service
- Scrub color or dress code not specified
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand prior to start
- Minimum 18 months, preferably 2 years, recent PCU experience required
- BLS (AHA or RQI accepted), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Demonstrated proficiency in telemetry, neuro patient care, and management of drips
- Conscious sedation and Level 1 trauma experience preferred
- Must have attended a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at graduation
- Two supervisor references required
- Out-of-state candidates only; local IN residents are not eligible for this contract
- Background check, SSN, and DOB required for consideration
