Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring comfort with telemetry and diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 26-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a large academic teaching hospital
• Patient populations include general medicine and behavioral health, including DM, GI, respiratory, renal, wound care, observation patients, and dementia or developmental delays
• Patient ratios are 1:6 on the general medicine unit and 1:5 on the behavioral health unit
• Centralized telemetry monitoring is used
• Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell med dispensing utilized
• Required to float to other med/surg units as needed
• Shifts start at 1830; every other weekend is required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• 75% holiday coverage required

• Responsibilities include direct and indirect patient care for complex general medicine and behavioral health cases
• Support team includes CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy, hospitalist, intensivist, and security
• Orientation includes facility and two-day departmental onboarding
• Royal blue scrubs required

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in med/surg tele settings required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required for all units
• NIHSS certification required; CPI required for behavioral health unit (can be obtained onsite)
• Demonstrated experience reading telemetry strips and managing chest tubes, traches, IVs, PCA pumps, and medication gtts (e.g., Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, Heparin)
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work under moderate to high stress
• Epic EMR experience preferred
