Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an academic Level 1 trauma center with transplant and oncology patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 10-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a large academic medical center
• Patient population includes renal and pancreatic transplant donors and recipients, gynecologic and surgical oncology, urology, colorectal, and bariatric surgery cases
• RN-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4-5
• Average census is 8 patients
• Uses telemetry for patient monitoring
• Work schedule is night shift starting at 6:30 PM with every other weekend required
• 75% holiday coverage is required
• Epic EMR is utilized
• Unit uses Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and ON-Q pumps
• No on-call responsibilities
• May occasionally float within the cancer center or to other med-surg units in an emergency
• First time travelers may be considered based on relevant experience
• Royal blue scrubs are required
• Support includes 1 CNA per shift, experienced resource nurses at night, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and access to attendant physicians, residents, and APPs
• Free onsite parking is provided
• Department emphasizes teamwork and flexibility
• One-day departmental orientation provided
• Working in a Level 1 Trauma and academic teaching environment

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS required for resource team
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills are necessary
• Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, PCAs, surgical drains, wound care, and managing medications and drips such as Rituxan, thymoglobulin, and neostigmine
• Epic EMR experience preferred
