Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position with night shifts and a requirement for a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 20-bed ICU with mixed medical, surgical, and neuro patient populations in an acute care setting
• Average daily census of 16-17 patients with 6 rooms designated for COVID if needed
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:3 in stepdown support
• Unit manages a variety of critical care cases including post-cath lab and balloon pumps, but no open hearts or CRRT
• Uses Epic for electronic health records and Phillips cardiac monitors with data flowing to Epic
• Night shift schedule from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am with every other weekend required and rotating holidays
• Travelers typically do not float outside of ICU unless assigned as float pool
• Block scheduling may be available for night shifts
• Charge nurse available 24/7 who may take a patient if needed
• Care for a diverse mix of critically ill patients, including those requiring moderate sedation and advanced IV drips
• RN role is supported by respiratory therapists and in-house pharmacy services available 24/7
• Orientation includes general hospital introduction plus 1-2 unit shifts with a preceptor
• Navy blue scrubs are required, with navy or white jacket and white or navy undershirt
• Distasteful tattoos must be covered and hair must be a natural color
• Holiday shifts may be required if unit needs change
• First shift includes unit-specific orientation with additional support as needed

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience
• Current AHA certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required; PALS required; TNCC preferred
• Completion of facility-required EKG testing for ICU units
• COVID-19 vaccination required unless a valid medical or religious exemption is approved
• Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Previous permanent employees and travelers at any WVU Medicine facility must have completed a 2-year break before returning
• Experience with Epic EMR and Phillips cardiac monitors preferred
