Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry night shift position, requiring an active MD or compact RN license and cardiac telemetry experience.
Responsibilities
- Position is in the Cardiac Telemetry (3W Cardiac MS/Tele) unit in a hospital setting
- Night shifts, 3x12 hours per week, 19:00-07:30
- Every other weekend required
- Cares for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac diagnoses, including stroke/TIA and stable post-cardiac cath cases
- Uses remote telemetry monitoring (Hicuity System) and specialized equipment such as Zebra portable phones, Alaris IV pumps, and Coviden Feeding Pump
- Administers specialty drips including Cardizem (non-titratable), Amiodarone, Heparin, Protonix, and Lasix
- Floating required within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
- No pre-scheduled on-call requirements, but rare call-off/on-call status due to low census
- Responsible for monitoring and caring for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac and telemetry needs including post-stroke/TIA and stable cath cases
- Cardiac drips managed are non-titratable per protocol
- Will float within the hospital, with travelers being first to float based on unit needs
- Cannot request block scheduling or schedule restrictions, but unit will try to accommodate if possible
- Holiday shifts are required as scheduled
- Return travelers must have been gone at least 6 months from the system, and former staff must be gone for 12 months to return as a traveler
- Travelers must be comfortable with floating and not have special requests regarding assignment scope
- Most locations allow one contract extension before a 6-month break is required
Requirements
- Active RN license in MD or Compact State required at time of consideration
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Current NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- At least 1 year of recent cardiac telemetry nursing experience is required
- First-time travelers accepted if they have strong clinical skills and experience
- Must provide two recent professional references (one supervisor/manager and one charge RN is acceptable)
- Must live at least 50 miles from the hospital to be eligible for the travel position
- CPI certification may be required for unit compliance
- Completion of required modules and compliance documentation prior to start
