Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring strong cardiac/post-op heart experience and floating flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Progressive Care Unit of a Level I or II trauma hospital
• Care for patients post cardiac and post vascular surgery
• Staffing ratios range from 1:3-5 based on patient acuity
• Must work three 12-hour night shifts (19:00-07:30) weekly
• Every other weekend required, with possible consecutive weekends based on need
• Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU, and to affiliate hospitals as needed
• Expected to cover charge nurse duties as needed with provided training
• EMR system used is Cerner
• Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide specialized cardiac and post-op care
• All travelers are required to float within and between facilities as operationally needed
• First time travelers are welcome to apply
• IN residents are considered local and are not eligible for this PCU traveler position
• Candidates must have been separated for 12 months from any prior perm or PRN IU Health employment before being considered
• Holiday requirement: must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Maximum of 5 days of non-holiday requested time off will be auto-approved; additional RTO requires approval

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license in hand before start date
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
• Minimum 18 months of recent PCU or related experience with strong cardiac or post-op heart background
• Level I or II trauma experience required
• Skill in telemetry, IV starts, and titration of cardiac drips
• Ability to float to different levels of care
• Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Experience with Cerner charting system required
• COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions honored with documentation
