Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring strong cardiac/post-op heart experience and floating flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Progressive Care Unit of a Level I or II trauma hospital
- Care for patients post cardiac and post vascular surgery
- Staffing ratios range from 1:3-5 based on patient acuity
- Must work three 12-hour night shifts (19:00-07:30) weekly
- Every other weekend required, with possible consecutive weekends based on need
- Floating required to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU, and to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Expected to cover charge nurse duties as needed with provided training
- EMR system used is Cerner
- Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide specialized cardiac and post-op care
- All travelers are required to float within and between facilities as operationally needed
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- IN residents are considered local and are not eligible for this PCU traveler position
- Candidates must have been separated for 12 months from any prior perm or PRN IU Health employment before being considered
- Holiday requirement: must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Maximum of 5 days of non-holiday requested time off will be auto-approved; additional RTO requires approval
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license in hand before start date
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 18 months of recent PCU or related experience with strong cardiac or post-op heart background
- Level I or II trauma experience required
- Skill in telemetry, IV starts, and titration of cardiac drips
- Ability to float to different levels of care
- Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- Experience with Cerner charting system required
- COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions honored with documentation
