Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of MST experience and telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is on a 26-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a Level 1 trauma, academic medical center
• Provides care to general medicine patients with diagnoses including DM, GI, respiratory, renal, wounds, and chest tubes
• RN to patient ratio is 5-6:1
• Shift options are 0630-1900 or 1830-0630
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• Travelers are required to work 75% of holidays
• Floating is required to other Med/Surg units
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
• Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days departmental training
• Patient care is supported by CNAs, charge nurses, and 24/7 in-house RT, hospitalist, and intensivist teams
• Responsible for direct and indirect patient care, including stat lab draws and telemetry monitoring
• Unit culture emphasizes patient-centered care, reliability, and strong teamwork
• Free employee parking is available
• Scrub color is royal blue
• Travelers may be considered if experienced, including first-time travelers with strong med/surg background
• Rapid response team and centralized telemetry support are provided
• Requested time off is subject to nurse manager approval

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
• Strong background in med/surg nursing required
• Experience with chest tubes, trachs, lab draws, PIV starts, drain & tubes, and PCA pumps required
• Demonstrated ability to read telemetry strips
• Experience managing infusions such as Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin
• Epic charting experience strongly preferred
