Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position with night shifts caring for adult and geriatric patients and an active IL RN license required.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a hospital setting
• Care for adult and geriatric patients with medical, surgical, or infectious disease conditions requiring telemetry monitoring
• The average daily census is 16-18 with 24 beds
• Night shifts, 3x12 hours from 19:00 to 07:30, Monday through Friday
• No weekend or on-call shifts required
• Staffing ratios for nights are 1:5
• Must float within service line and to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
• Utilizes Epic for charting; Epic experience preferred
• First time travelers are accepted for this position
• Responsibilities include care for telemetry and non-acute cardiac diagnosis, advanced medication infusions without increased titration, and neurological assessment for AIS/TIA patients
• Certain patient exclusions apply: unstable GI bleeds, uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vitals, continuous NPPV, and specific high-risk drips
• Navy scrubs are required
• Permanent employees must wait one year before returning as a traveler
• Maximum 7 days of requested time off for 13-week contracts; no time off allowed during the first week of orientation

• Facial hair must allow for fit testing if required

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration (Illinois is not a compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience is required
• Certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
• Certifications preferred: ACLS and CPI
• Experience caring for adult and geriatric populations in Med/Surg Tele required
• Experience with EKG rhythm identification and non-titrating cardiac drips required
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Must live outside a 75-mile radius from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• References from supervisors within the past two years are preferred
