Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN for a night shift Med/Surg Tele position in a secure corrections unit, requiring EPIC experience and a current OH or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a locked corrections Med/Surg and Telemetry unit treating Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections inmates
• Float to various oncology Med/Surg units and PCU as needed
• Treats a diverse patient population including active oncology, hematology, surgical, and complex medical cases
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for Med/Surg
• Uses telemetry monitoring equipment and cardiac monitoring systems
• Utilizes Pyxis for medication management and EPIC for documentation
• Three 12-hour night shifts per week, with varied weekend requirements
• Care for patients with a mix of oncology and non-oncology diagnoses, including respiratory, renal, metabolic, and surgical cases
• Orientation provided to corrections unit protocols and oncology patient care
• Secure corrections environment with access controlled by corrections officers
• Must complete fingerprinting process in Ohio promptly after contract acceptance
• Former employees must have a 6 month gap away from the facility before being eligible for a travel assignment
• Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers
• Time off requests must be submitted with initial application
• Night shift nurses must be comfortable working in a high-security corrections setting

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS certification required
• Medical-Surgical and Telemetry experience required
• EPIC charting experience required
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration skills required
• Education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program required
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, perform non-invasive airway management, and administer cardiac drips (no titration)
• Must provide two professional references, including one from a supervisor or manager
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
