Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro night shift position in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and proven neuro and telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is on a Medical Surgical Neuro unit within an acute care hospital
• Level II Trauma center with an average daily census of 32 patients
• Patients include neurological, post-surgical, trauma, and complex medical cases
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts from 18:00 to 06:30
• Every other weekend is required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating within hospital and to affiliate hospitals is required
• Use of Cerner EMR system with prior experience required
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Typical duties include neurological assessments, post-op care, cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, wound care, and patient education
• Participation in rapid response and emergency teams is expected
• Orientation includes virtual at-home module completion prior to start
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays with up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO allowed without additional approval
• No specific distance radius for local candidates
• Parking permit is provided at no cost
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment
• Teaching hospital and Level II Trauma experience are preferred but not required

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of application
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications from AHA or Red Cross required
• Recent neuro patient care experience including CVA, pre- and post-neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury
• Demonstrated skills in telemetry (remote monitoring), rapid response, and cardiac/emergency care
• Experience with surgical drains, chest tubes, tracheostomy management, and continuous bladder irrigation required
• Proficient in IV therapy including port access, PICC line management, and blood product administration
• Prior use of Cerner EMR is required
• Previous employees (PERM or PRN) must be away for 12 months before applying
