Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position on night shifts, requiring at least 2 years of acute Med/Surg experience and an active NE or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Position is in an acute care hospital setting on a 21-bed Med Surg/Oncology unit
• Patient population includes general medical/surgical patients with a specialty in post-op cancer intervention such as prostatectomy and mastectomy
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5
• Central monitoring is present on the unit, and RNs are expected to monitor and recognize changes in telemetry strips
• RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, lidocaine, and TPN
• Uses Epic for charting
• 12-hour night shifts with every 3rd weekend required
• Floating is rare but may occur to other medical/surgical units
• No call or standby is required
• Rotating holiday coverage is expected
• Unit dress code is navy scrubs
• Oncology certification is a plus but not required, and travelers will not administer chemotherapy
• Nurse aides are present depending on patient needs, with a possible 1:15 ratio for aides to patients
• Unit has charge nurses or house supervisors for support
• Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to comply will result in termination
• Unit/department-specific orientation will be provided
• First-time travelers are eligible to apply
• A copy of your driver’s license is required for application

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg RN experience required
• Current BLS certification from AHA required
• Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
• Driver's license required to confirm residence outside of a 50-mile radius
• May not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
• Must pass a skills competency exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation
• Skilled in communication, accurate documentation, timeliness, and patient-centered care
• Experience with Epic charting preferred
