Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit night position providing care for mixed acuity patients with telemetry and titratable cardiac drips, requiring a GA or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with assignments that may include all PCU, all Med-Surg/Telemetry, or a mix based on patient acuity and staffing
  • Patient population includes adolescents through geriatric adults with neuro (small population), respiratory, cardiac, and mixed medical needs
  • Care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring and titration of cardiac drips
  • Staffing ratio is 1:4-5 with a noted high patient load
  • Uses Epic EMR, Pyxis, and SBAR communication tools
  • Night shift position (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30)
  • Floating required within facility and scope of practice
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to work every other weekend unless otherwise specified
  • Daily responsibilities include caring for patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions, managing telemetry, and titrating cardiac drips as needed
  • Holiday coverage required; expected to work any major holidays that fall within assignment per specific policy
  • Scrub color requirement is navy blue
  • No block scheduling available
  • Time off requests are limited to 7 days and cannot be taken during the first week of the assignment, with additional restrictions for holidays
  • Modules and orientation are completed during non-billable hours, with content varying by specialty
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment
  • Local candidates are eligible at the same rate
  • Travel pairs are not permitted to work the same shift on the same unit
  • Candidates must be able to complete core compliance and schedule labs within 48 hours of signing the contract to start on time

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license in hand at the time of consideration
  • Minimum of 1 year recent PCU or Med-Surg/Telemetry experience required
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and administering/titrating cardiac drips required
  • Prior experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • Must provide two supervisory references for consideration (manager level or above)
  • Permanent staff must be separated from all facilities in the system for at least one full year to be eligible as a traveler
