Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care setting with night shifts and a WA or compact RN license required.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 34-bed Labor & Delivery unit within an acute care environment
• Includes 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds
• Average 150-180 births per month with high-risk and routine pregnancy cases
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 L&D and 1:3-4 couplets
• Required to attend deliveries independently and circulate in C-sections
• Must function in both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum, including transitioning babies and routine mom/baby care
• Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin drips are commonly titrated on the unit
• Epic EMR is used; experience preferred
• Electronic fetal monitoring is performed using Centricity-perinatal
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730), with every other weekend required
• Block scheduling available upon request
• No floating outside the department; may float within L&D and postpartum areas
• 8-hour compliance session and Epic EMR training provided, followed by 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation
• OB/GYN hospitalist, anesthesia, and neonatal nurse practitioner are available in-house 24/7
• Surgical techs and patient care assistants present on each shift
• Charge nurse is free of patient assignment during all shifts
• Must be adaptable to unit workflows, feedback, and quality standards
• Scrubs are provided and a locker is available
• Holiday coverage is rotated with permanent staff
• Standby shifts may be scheduled, requiring a 45-minute response time

Requirements

• Active WA or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent LDRP experience required
• BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
• Comfortable attending deliveries independently and assisting with newborn transitions
• Experience circulating in C-sections and titrating labor-related drips
• Not open to first-time travelers
• Two professional references required—one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
• Driver’s license required for consideration
• Preferred: Intermediate or advanced fetal heart monitoring (FHM) certification
