Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring a WV or compact RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 48-bed acute Med/Surg unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• Typical patient population includes pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units to care for lower acuity patients
• Uses Cerner electronic medical record system
• No call or standby required
• Monitor techs read and monitor telemetry; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
• Heparin, bumex, and lasix drips may be titrated by RNs, but no cardiac drip titration
• RNs will perform patient care duties including vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and turning/positioning
• Respiratory therapists manage respiratory equipment and treatments; RNs are responsible for monitoring
• Two charge RNs on days (with patient assignment), one or more at night (assignment depends on staffing)
• Support from nurse aides and patient care techs with a typical ratio of 1:10-12
• Travelers may be asked to join the holiday rotation
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• One day of EMR/computer training with an educator and one day with a preceptor are provided for unit orientation
• Traveler schedules are manager-assigned with flexibility required around requested time off
• Travelers are considered for only one facility within the system at a time

Requirements

• Current WV or compact RN license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Minimum of 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience
• Must provide an unexpired driver's license for consideration
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Must not reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• RNs with more than one year cumulative experience at the facility must have a two-year break before reapplying
