Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in a correctional setting, requiring an active IL license and evening shift availability.

Responsibilities

• Work in a correctional healthcare environment on a Med/Surg unit
• Shift schedule is five 8-hour evening shifts per week from 3:00pm to 11:30pm
• Every other weekend work is required
• Floating to different units or facilities within a 50-mile radius is mandatory and can be assigned with as little as two hours' notice
• No block scheduling accommodations are available
• Uses Cerner EMR system; prior experience is helpful
• Provide Med/Surg nursing care to an incarcerated population
• Must adhere to strict compliance and credentialing standards, including timely completion of lab work and modules
• Free parking is available on a first come, first serve basis
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Returning clinicians must complete full recredentialing and orientation regardless of previous assignment length
• Pre-start modules are required and typically take about 4 hours to complete
• Requests for time off are limited to 5 days per contract, with no more than 2 consecutive days, and are not approved on weekends or around holidays

Requirements

• Active and current IL RN license required at time of consideration
• At least 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Correctional nursing experience preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Proof of all required vaccinations, including COVID vaccine (booster not required), must be provided one week prior to start
• Local candidates accepted and preferred; must reside within 75 miles of the facility
• Pending licensure candidates will not be considered
