Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Progressive Care Unit night shift role requiring 2 years of recent experience and proficiency in cardiac monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Surgical PCU with near-ICU acuity at a teaching hospital
- Patient population includes ENT, thoracic, general surgery, urology, and medical overflow cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3-4
- Responsibilities include management of cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, fresh trachs, feeding tubes, post-op patients, epidurals, non-titratable cardiac drips, IV insulin, BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, and Doppler flap checks
- Cerner EMR is used and experience with Cerner is required
- Night shifts are 3x12 hours, 19:00 to 07:30
- Requires working every other weekend; may need to cover consecutive weekends based on operational needs
- Floating to Med-Surg, PCU, or ICU within hospital or affiliate hospitals is expected
- Role may involve taking charge assignments based on operational needs, with provided training
- Precepting and being shadowed by students are requirements for all travel nurses
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays during the contract
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Returning employees/PRN staff must be separated from previous employment by at least 12 months
- Up to 5 days of requested time off can be auto-approved
- Refusal to float as assigned may result in contract termination
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of recent PCU experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, chest tube management, and related PCU procedures
- Experience with Cerner EMR required
- Must be comfortable with unit charge responsibilities, student precepting, and floating as needed
- Local candidates not accepted for PCU positions
