Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN with recent PCU or IMC experience for a mixed-acuity Progressive Care Unit with telemetry in New York.

Responsibilities

• Work in a mixed-acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with medical-surgical telemetry and med-surg patients
• Patient ratios are 1:3-5 for days/weekends and 1:3-6 for nights, adjusted by acuity
• Night shift position with 12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
• Patients include PCU, MS Tele, surgical (pre and post-op), ENT, general, trauma, and ortho surgery cases, with occasional overflow medical patients
• Rare pediatric patients; assignment given only if experienced
• Floating required to sister units, including West 2, West 3, and Observation
• Every other weekend coverage required
• Uses Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication, and SBAR for communication
• Responsibilities include caring for patients with complex cardiac, medical-surgical, post-op, and trauma diagnoses
• May be required to manage equipment such as external CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, and wound vacs
• Strong experience with heparin protocols, sepsis care, post-stroke monitoring, and neuro patients is valued
• Maximum 7 days of requested time off allowed during assignment
• Orientation consists of 12 hours
• Flexible scrub options; any solid color is acceptable
• First time travelers are accepted for this assignment

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required
• Minimum of 1 year of recent PCU or IMC experience within the last 3 years
• Experience with telemetry, medical-surgical, and stepdown care required
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Preferred certifications: PALS and TCAR
• Proficiency in skills such as dysrhythmia interpretation, management of post-MI patients, titration of insulin and cardiac drips, central line and PICC management, blood product administration, and wound care
• Experience with Epic EMR required
• Local candidates must live more than 50 miles away to be eligible
