Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg night shift position requiring active NC or Compact RN license and ACLS/BLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Neuro Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
• Night shift schedule with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Patient ratios are 1:6
• Patient population includes general medicine with a neuro focus
• Travelers are required to float first as needed
• 5-6 weekend shifts are required, approximately every other weekend
• Use of Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication, and SBAR for communication
• Unit orientation consists of 24 hours
• Manager schedules shifts
• Contract staff may be assigned to Storm or Hurricane Team, and must be available during catastrophic events or disasters
• Scrubs are not provided; navy blue scrubs required
• Responsibilities include providing nursing care to neuro-medical surgical patients with general medicine needs
• Required to float to other units as needed based on facility priority
• Must be willing to respond to disaster or mass casualty situations as part of the Storm or Hurricane Team
• Maximum of 7 days requested time off (RTO) permitted for consideration
• No additional RTO allowed after booking; additional call-offs or absences may result in contract cancellation or Do Not Return status

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Teamwork approach to patient care and focus on patient safety required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Neuro experience and NIH Stroke certification preferred
• Experience or willingness to learn the charge nurse role is preferred
