Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a PCU/Stepdown position requiring an active IL RN license, BLS and NIH certifications, and at least one year of recent telemetry or PCU experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within an acute care, teaching hospital setting
  • Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility
  • Patient population includes cardiac, neuro stepdown, post-cardiac procedures, renal, trauma, orthopedic, and post-surgical cases
  • Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts, with option for 4x12 hour shifts if preferred
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call required
  • Floating within scope to similar units as needed
  • Uses Cerner EMR; Cerner experience preferred
  • Provide comprehensive care for a diverse PCU stepdown patient population, including monitoring for and managing a wide variety of acute and complex needs
  • Participate in wound care, isolation precautions, and rapid response teams
  • Team environment with support from experienced clinical staff in a teaching hospital setting
  • RTO restrictions apply; ideally no more than 5 days off requested during contract
  • No local radius restrictions; local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Any solid color scrubs allowed
  • Parking is provided at no cost with a permit obtained during orientation
  • Holiday shifts may be required as part of the regular schedule
  • Must be comfortable with standard professional requirements for documentation and clinical skills

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum 1 year experience in telemetry, neuro stepdown, PCU, DOU, IMC, or equivalent stepdown settings
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required; ACLS preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in dysrhythmia interpretation/management, cardiac monitoring, rapid response, and management of various cardiac and neuro conditions
  • Experience with cardiovascular procedures (post-cardiac angiogram/MI, post-cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, TR Band)
  • Proficiency in gastrointestinal, genitourinary, renal, IV therapy, phlebotomy, medication management, and respiratory skills relevant to PCU
  • Hospital Level I trauma and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • First time travelers are not accepted
