Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring EPIC proficiency and the ability to manage insulin and heparin drips.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care Med/Surg unit caring for adult and geriatric patients
• Patient ratios are typically 1:6-7 with a daily census of approximately 43
• Night shift position with 12-hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15) and a requirement to work every other weekend
• 12-hour shifts for 36 or 48 hours per week are available
• Contract length options are 13 to 26 weeks
• Must float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding as needed
• Expectation to participate in Inclement Weather and Storm/Hurricane Teams
• May be assigned care for COVID patients
• Uses EPIC for documentation, PYXIS for medication, and SBAR for communication
• Charge nurse role is required during night shifts for travelers
• Required to work during holidays
• Primary responsibility is providing care to general Med/Surg adult and geriatric patients
• Unit orientation is 24 hours in duration
• Travelers may be consolidated to centralized float pools mid-contract based on facility needs
• Scrubs are not provided and navy scrubs are required
• Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed at booking; no additional RTO permitted after booking
• Call may be required if put on a prescheduled call shift
• Must be willing and able to work during mass casualty or catastrophic events as assigned

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required
• Experience using EPIC EMR required
• Must be able to safely manage insulin and heparin drips
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Ability to work with high flow oxygen, wound vac dressing changes, and occasional short-term BiPap support
• First time travelers accepted
