Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring Level 1 trauma and EVD experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in the Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital setting
  • 32-bed unit with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio in ICU and 4:1 when floating to Telemetry
  • Cares for neurological critical care patients, including those with brain tumors, cranial surgeries, and complex spine procedures
  • Uses Cerner EMR and Phillips telemetry monitors
  • 12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am) with four weekend shifts per four weeks
  • Floating required to all ICU and Telemetry units, with travelers first to float
  • Level 1 trauma center with respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
  • Floor orientation includes two shifts
  • Responsibilities focus on the care of critically ill neuro patients, including frequent neuro assessments and use of critical care equipment
  • Required to complete SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and sterile technique, which is pass/fail and grounds for termination if not passed
  • Can float to Med Surg Telemetry units and expected to take a higher patient load when floating
  • Work holidays as part of the core staff rotation based on unit needs
  • Scrub color for Neuro floors is steel grey or any non-offensive color/print
  • Pass/fail testing on sterile technique and Relias Dysrhythmia required for continued employment
  • No candidates who have been employed by the health system in the past year
  • Travel teams must have their own vehicles

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Minimum two years of ICU experience in a facility with over 450 beds
  • Recent Level 1 trauma experience required
  • EVD and ICP monitoring experience required
  • Minimum 3-6 months of travel nursing experience required
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer, with two attempts allowed
  • Must pass a skills exam on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion on day one of orientation
  • Required to provide two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility as verified by driver’s license
  • Must have natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean-shaven for fit testing

3 x 36 can’t beat

Private doctor group, older staff, I really enjoyed it, really can’t beat the 12 Hour shifts. Team is set up with two nurses two techs. On tech pans the other scrubs and flips per case. One nurse will monitor the other circulate and that flips per case.
