Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Neuro Telemetry RN with NIHSS certification and acute care experience for night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Work in an 18-bed Neuro Telemetry unit
• Care for post-CVA, TIA, SCI, TBI, Myasthenia Gravis, MS, and some trauma patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5-6
• Shifts are 12 hours, nights (7p-7a), with every other weekend and major holiday required
• Required to float as needed based on unit requirements
• Use of equipment includes NG tubes and tube feeders (Kangaroo Pumps)
• Most patients require Q4 hour neuro checks and NIHSS assessments
• Nurses perform peripheral lab draws
• Navy blue, white, or a combination of these colored scrubs are required
• Responsible for ongoing patient assessment, care planning, and evaluation in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
• Handles care coordination and patient teaching activities
• Acts as a patient safety and quality improvement advocate
• Responds to rapidly changing patient conditions and supports families facing unanticipated illness or injury
• Major holiday coverage is required
• Two attempts provided to pass EKG exam during orientation (study guides available)
• First-time travelers are welcome for interviews

Requirements

• Active VA or Compact RN license required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• At least 1 year of acute care RN experience required
• Confidence with NIHSS skills and performing Q4 neuro assessments required
• Must be proficient with lab draws
• 6 months of neuro experience preferred
• Must pass an EKG exam at orientation (with study guide provided)
• Epic EHR experience preferred
• Must not reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
