Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Chemo Certified Oncology Med/Surg RN with at least two years of inpatient experience and ONC certification for a night shift travel contract.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an inpatient unit primarily serving medical-surgical patients with oncology diagnoses
  • Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, and more
  • Target nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6; ratios may increase during higher census
  • Night shifts (3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15) with every other weekend required
  • 13 to 26 week contracts accepted
  • Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
  • Floating required to similar units, inpatient holding in the ED, or alternate medical patient care locations
  • Expected to participate in Storm Team or Hurricane Team assignments during catastrophic events
  • EMR is Epic; Pyxis used for medication management; SBAR for communication
  • Responsible for chemotherapy and biotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injection
  • Expected to provide care for patients with surgical drains, chest tubes, and a range of complex medical conditions
  • Contract staff are assigned equal patient loads as permanent staff
  • Monthly staff meeting attendance required
  • Storm or disaster response participation is mandatory if needed
  • Navy blue and white scrubs required
  • Unit provides 24 hours (2 shifts) of orientation
  • No additional RTO (time off) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum two years of inpatient Med/Surg experience
  • ONC certification required and ability to administer chemotherapy
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Experience with port access, central lines, PICC management, blood administration, wound vacs, and non-invasive airway management required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • First-time travelers accepted
