Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Oncology position on a night shift, requiring a WV or compact RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 36-bed acute Med/Surg-Oncology unit at trauma level 2
• Care for general MedSurg, post-op (lap chole, lap appy), and oncology patients, including those with complications requiring neutropenic precautions
• Patient ratio is typically 1:5-6
• Uses Epic EMR system
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• Float to any MedSurg/Tele units as needed
• Uses telemetry with Philips monitors; RNs must read and interpret their own strips with tech support available
• Charge nurse present 24/7; night charge takes patients
• Heparin drips are administered; no cardiac drips
• Care for a diverse patient population, including oncology patients with chemotherapy complications and chest tubes
• Participate in the holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Royal blue scrubs required; no false nails allowed
• Must be comfortable floating between MedSurg/Tele units
• Three CNAs support staff during all shifts
• First time travelers are accepted
• Returning travelers must have a two-year break if previously employed at any WVU Medicine location, and cumulative WVU experience as a traveler cannot exceed one year at a time

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum of 2 years RN experience
• Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
• Experience with chest tubes and pleurX drains is highly desirable
• Experience in acute care and MedSurg-Oncology settings preferred
• Must adhere to a 50-mile radius rule; local travelers not accepted
• ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy Biotherapy) certification is a plus
