Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Stepdown/PCU position in an acute care setting, requiring an active IA or compact RN license and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 22-bed Stepdown/PCU unit at an acute care hospital
• Patient population includes heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke
• Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4
• RNs are required to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitro
• Experience with CPAP equipment is required
• RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• Uses Epic EMR system
• 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700) on a cyclic schedule
• Weekend shifts required every other week
• Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday
• Floating to ICU may be required if experience and unit need align
• Charge nurse takes a full patient assignment
• Unit support includes patient care techs with a 1:10 ratio
• Fast-paced unit with frequent admissions and discharges
• Attributes for success include positivity, teamwork, and a patient-centered approach
• RNs must comply with a strict fingernail policy; artificial nails are strictly prohibited in patient care areas
• One 12-hour unit-specific orientation shift is provided
• RTO (requested time off) must be declared up front; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
• Holiday coverage expectations include 1 major and 1 minor holiday during the contract
• First time travelers will be considered for this position

Requirements

• Active IA or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Must provide a copy of valid driver's license for eligibility verification
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility as determined by driver's license
• Candidates may not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year
• At least 1 supervisor reference from the last 12 months and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years required, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Successful completion of an open book skills exam with a minimum score of 90% is required during orientation
