Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position, requiring a NC or compact license and BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Department of a hospital with a 12-bed unit
• General patient population serving neonates through centenarians
• Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
• Required to work every third weekend
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:4-6
• Documentation is completed using an older version of MediTech
• Communication uses SBAR with bedside handoff process
• Travelers may be floated within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals based on skillset and census
• Duties include IV starts, telemetry monitoring, triage, and conscious sedation as applicable
• Training includes 24 hours of hospital orientation and completion of pre-start modules
• Navy scrubs are required
• Must be able to work two out of three major holidays; no RTO approved during first week of assignment
• Travel pairs are allowed but must work on different units
• Current or recent Novant Health or New Hanover staff must follow rehire and employment interval guidelines
• Candidates residing within 50 miles are considered local and offered a local rate
• Fatigue policy limits working more than 5 consecutive days or over 60 hours in a week

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required in hand at time of start
• Minimum of 1 year recent ER nursing experience required
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS
• Experience with IV starts, telemetry, and working in the ER setting
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Charting experience required; Epic preferred
• References required prior to start; two supervisor or manager references from the past 12 months highly preferred
• First time travelers will be considered
