Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on an acute care overflow unit, requiring a WV or compact RN license and strong med/surg skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 30-bed Med/Surg overflow unit
• Patient ratios are typically 1:6 to 1:7
• Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, cholecystitis, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, and AKI
• Heparin titration required based on aPTT results
• Intermittent BIPAP may be used; no ventilators managed on unit
• Remote telemetry monitored by techs
• Documentation via Epic EMR
• 12-hour day shifts, with some potential for day/night rotation and scheduled weekends
• Floating required as needed based on census, travelers float first
• Provide care to diverse Med/Surg patient populations including those with cardiac, respiratory, and acute medical needs
• Participation in heparin titration and use of intermittent BIPAP when clinically indicated
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Weekend and holiday shifts scheduled as required, typically half of total weekends during contract
• Support available from one charge RN per shift and patient care technicians
• No call or standby requirements
• Travelers must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local travelers not accepted
• Travelers may not work at any WVU facility for more than one consecutive year and require a two-year break between assignments at any WVU facility

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Must be willing to work up to a 1:7 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Cannot have worked at any WVU Medicine facility in the last 2 years
