Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN for an adult acute care unit in Illinois requiring at least one year of experience and an active IL RN license.

Responsibilities

• Position is in an adult medical specialty unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Unit includes 56 beds with both private and semi-private rooms
• Patient population includes general acute medical cases such as cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, diabetes, respiratory failure, liver and kidney failure, behavioral health, and addictions
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 from 07:00-23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00-07:30
• Uses Epic EMR; prior Epic experience preferred
• Required to work three 12-hour night shifts per week with every other weekend required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating to other acute care general medicine areas may be required, including nephrology, neuro, ortho, and oncology units
• Free charge RN and PCT support provided; PCT ratio is 1:8-10 for vital signs, accuchecks, bladder scans, and ADLs
• Remote house-wide telemetry monitoring with RN access to strips on computer or pack; Phillips monitors are used
• Unit uses block and self-scheduling options via API electronic scheduler
• Perform care for a diverse acute general medical patient population with complex comorbidities
• Work alongside a dedicated care team with access to charge RN and patient care technician support
• Unit-based orientation provided over 2-3 shifts
• Holiday coverage may be required based on department needs
• Any color professional scrubs may be worn; visible tattoos and piercings (except ears) are not allowed
• Covid vaccination is not required for this assignment
• Local candidates are accepted with an adjusted rate if living within 50 miles

Requirements

• Active IL RN license is required at the time of consideration
• Minimum one year of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes is required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Experience in a Level I trauma center preferred if no prior travel experience
• Must be able to pass a drug screen for all panels
• No BSN required for this role
