Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring a NE or compact RN license and advanced certifications.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in a Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospital
- Unit supports both adult and pediatric patients over 15 years old with a variety of critical conditions including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, stroke, sepsis, renal and cardiac failure, and complex surgical cases
- 34-bed ICU with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 for ICU; may float to PCU and Med Surg with appropriate ratios
- EMR system used is Epic
- Shift is 12-hour days, scheduled according to unit needs, with every other weekend required
- Required to float to all inpatient units, excluding Maternity and NICU
- No monitor techs; RNs must interpret Draeger centralized telemetry monitoring
- Common titratable drips include vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Charge nurse present each shift and assists with RRTs and codes
- RNs are expected to titrate critical care drips and work with advanced clinical equipment; real-time training available for specific technologies as needed
- Team-based environment includes working closely with attendings, fellows, residents, and support staff
- Artificial nails are prohibited for infection control in all patient care areas
- Pass/fail skills assessment during orientation is required; a minimum score of 90% is mandatory
- Navy blue scrubs are required for all staff
- Candidates must provide all required documentation for consideration, including active license, certifications, and valid driver’s license
- Requested time off must be provided upfront (no more than 7 days per 13-week contract); additional time off will not be approved
- Holiday coverage is required for 2 out of 3 major holidays or as scheduled
- Volume can flex due to the facility serving as a tertiary hospital for the region
Requirements
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience is required
- Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips is required
- Driver's license required to verify compliance with 50-mile radius rule
- Candidates must not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility in the CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity networks
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
