Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics and Trauma unit, requiring a NE or compact RN license and recent medical-surgical experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute hospital setting on a 55-bed Med Surg/Ortho/Trauma unit
• Patient population includes joint replacements, orthopedic trauma, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and more
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• Float to other medical-surgical units may be required
• Mechanical lifts are available in every other room
• Tele techs interpret strips but RNs need telemetry awareness
• Epic EMR is used; prior experience preferred
• Unit emphasizes hourly rounding and responsive patient care
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must be comfortable managing frequent admissions and discharges
• Charge nurse present on each shift, with additional support from nurse aides and patient care techs
• 2-day department-specific orientation provided
• Must be able to titrate heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips and manage PCA pumps
• May be required to work 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• Artificial nails are prohibited for patient care staff
• RTO requests must be declared upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract); additional time off will not be approved

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license required at time of application
• Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg experience
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required; ACLS preferred
• Must provide two professional references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, one from a peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
• Driver's license required to verify permanent address and radius compliance
• May not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
• Pass a unit-specific open book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% to remain eligible
