Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with Telemetry responsibilities and a focus on neuro, trauma, and surgical patients.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital PCU with telemetry, IMC, and medical patient populations
- Patient mix includes pre and post-op trauma, TBIs, ortho, neuro, vascular, and bariatric cases
- Typical patient ratio is 1:4-5
- Duties include managing wound vacs, respiratory support (chest tubes, BIPAP, HFNC, trachs), skin grafts, surgical drains, ortho traumas, CVAs, TBIs, spinal cord injury, pre/post neurosurgery, PCAs, and cardiac drips (no titration)
- Interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and experience with intracranial bleeds required
- Uses Epic for charting
- Scheduled for 3x12 day shifts, 7:00 to 19:30
- Floating within skillset required when not needed on home unit
- Responsibilities include caring for a diverse range of complex patients with both medical and surgical needs
- First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment
- Locals are accepted at the same rate
- Scrubs or professional attire required per hospital policy
- No block scheduling available
Requirements
- Active NJ or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or telemetry nursing experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience with Epic EMR
- Ability to interpret ABGs and manage complex respiratory equipment
- RWJBH staff must be gone from the health system at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
