Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN with at least 2 years of recent ED experience and a current NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Level III Trauma, teaching hospital Emergency Department
• Typical shift is 12 hours, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., on a 36-hour week schedule
• Every other weekend required with travelers working 75% of holidays
• Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, neuro, critical illness, and behavioral health cases
• Maximum RN to patient ratio is 1:5, depending on acuity
• May float to any facility within the assigned region, including freestanding EDs
• Utilizes Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• No on-call or call back requirements
• Duties include providing comprehensive care to diverse emergency and trauma patients
• Support staff includes CNA, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and ED physicians on site
• Expect 2 days of departmental orientation in addition to facility onboarding
• Navy scrubs required

• Returning employees must be separated for at least 1 year if previously employed permanently
• First-time travelers may be considered, but not preferred
• Up to 6 days off can be approved, excluding holidays, and any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license is required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications required; TNCC preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ED RN experience required; most recent experience within the last year
• Trauma and stroke care experience required
• Skill in cardiac rhythm interpretation, conscious sedation, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, critical care drips, and blood administration required
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the home unit (locals not accepted)
• Minimum one recent professional reference from a supervisor-level contact is required
