Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with an active NE or compact license, proficiency in titrating cardiac drips, and 2 years of recent ICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a hospital acute care ICU
• Unit has 33 beds with an average daily census of 16
• Adult patient population including trauma, cardiac, overdose, substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
• Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:2–3 in the ICU
• ICU RNs required to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
• ICU RNs work with respiratory support equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
• Use of Epic EMR system is required
• 12-hour day shifts (0630-1830)
• Required to work every other weekend and at least 2 holidays per contract
• Floating to PCU and occasionally MedSurg required, with comparable patient ratios
• Monitor brand is GE; RNs must interpret and document telemetry strips
• RNs are responsible for interpreting and documenting cardiac monitor strips
• Support staff include nurse aides and healthcare support techs, based on census and need
• Self-scheduling available for core staff, travelers are added as needs dictate; block scheduling is not available except for weekends
• Orientation consists of 1 unit-specific shift and 12 total orientation hours
• Must submit all RTO up-front (maximum 7 days per contract); no additional RTO will be approved after submission
• First-time travelers are considered
• Scrub policy prohibits artificial nails; compliance is mandatory

Requirements

• Active NE or compact (NLC) RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
• Ability to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
• Experience with ventilators and respiratory support equipment required
• Must provide copy of driver's license to confirm residence outside 50 miles of the facility
• Candidate may not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
• Must pass a 90% open book exam on orientation skills
• Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas
