Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) night shift position requiring a NE or compact RN license, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 55-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) on the 4th Floor East Wing of an acute care hospital
• Primarily adult patient population, with occasional adolescent patients age 15 and above
• Common cases include CVA, TIA, respiratory distress, subdural hematoma, COVID, and weakness
• Patient ratio is 1:4 on both day and night shifts
• 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630) with every other weekend required
• Use of telemetry, PCA pumps, cardizem, insulin drips, Alaris IV pumps, and mechanical lifts in every other room
• EMR system is Epic, with experience preferred
• Floating may be required, primarily to medical-surgical units as needed
• Responsibilities include managing stepdown level care for high acuity patients and administering complex medication drips
• Must adhere to hourly rounding and a high standard of patient responsiveness
• Strong team support including CNAs, charge nurse, educators, care managers, social workers, dietitians, PT, and OT
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN (NLC) license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute PCU or stepdown RN experience required
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required
• Telemetry competency required
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Driver's license required to confirm residence outside a 50-mile radius from facility
• Must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
• Passing a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% required
