Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring cardiac PCU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 30-bed Cardiac Medical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a hospital setting
  • Care for cardiac patients including those with congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, and pre/post cardiac catheterization, as well as respiratory cases like COPD and pneumonia
  • Patient ratios are typically 1:5, with ratios of 1:4 for patients requiring drips or BIPAP
  • Shift is 3x12 hour nights, 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, with weekend and holiday rotation as needed
  • Self-assisted scheduling through Optilink with adjustments based on departmental need
  • Unit uses Epic EMR; experience required
  • Unit staffed with Nurse Assistants 24/7 and an RN secretary from 7 am to 11 pm
  • Rooms are remotely monitored by a Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department
  • Responsibilities include managing complex cardiac and respiratory conditions in a progressive care setting
  • Involvement with rapid response teams is preferred
  • Previous charge RN experience is preferred
  • No local candidates accepted; only those living at least 50 miles away are eligible
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Holiday coverage is required as needed
  • Study materials will not be provided for the EKG exam; candidates must prepare in advance

Requirements

  • Active RN license in NC or a compact state
  • Minimum of 2 years' recent RN experience required
  • Cardiac PCU experience required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS certification preferred
  • Experience with EPIC EMR is mandatory
  • Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, provide telemetry monitoring, pre/post cardiac cath care, peripheral and PICC line management, manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (including titration), perform procedural sedation, and manage chest tubes, CPAP/BIPAP, and tracheostomies
  • Must pass a mandatory EKG exam during compliance (two attempts allowed)
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles away from the facility
