Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift position in an inpatient acute rehab unit, requiring strong neuro skills and an active IL RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 29-bed acute rehabilitation unit within a post-acute care hospital
- Patient population includes neuro, neurosurgery, amputations, multi-trauma, cardiac, and complex medical cases such as tracheostomies (no ventilators)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 on days and 6:1 on nights
- Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services are available to patients
- Nights, 12-hour shifts (7:00 pm to 7:30 am), with every other weekend and holiday rotation required
- Floating may be required to LTAC and med-surg units; float to HAU only with training
- Unit uses EPIC for charting; prior EPIC experience is preferred but not required
- CPAP/BiPAP devices are used at night for sleep apnea; high flow nasal cannula (not heated) may be used
- No on-call or standby duties are required
- RNs are required to attend multidisciplinary team conferences for acute inpatient rehab
- Unit is supported by house supervisors and nurse aides with an aide ratio of 1:9 or 1:10
- Orientation includes 2 days of classroom and 2-3 days/nights of precepted clinical training, with additional training on QRP and rehab documentation
- Holiday shifts are rotated every other holiday
- No specific radius rule; local candidates with permanent addresses within 50 miles are eligible at a local rate
- Any color scrubs are acceptable as part of the unit dress code, no t-shirts unless approved
- COVID vaccination is not required
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 1 year RN experience
- BLS certification (AHA) required and must be current
- Strong neuro nursing skills are required
- Must be able to pass a drug screening as the worksite is a drug-free campus
