Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg position requiring 1 year of experience and an active WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Med/Surg unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Unit has 48 beds and serves adult patients with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, AMS, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, falls, and general weakness
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• 12-hour day shifts, including every other weekend as scheduled
• Use of Cerner EMR system
• May require titration of drips such as heparin, bumex, and lasix, but not cardiac drips
• Monitor techs interpret telemetry; nurses are not required to read or interpret tele strips
• Floating required to MS, MS-Tele, or IMC as needed for lower acuity patients
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedule is made by the manager
• RNs may be asked to join the holiday rotation per staffing needs
• First time travelers are accepted
• Assignment includes floating to similar units based on needs
• Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
• Brief unit orientation with educator/computer system and one day with a preceptor provided
• Charge nurse typically takes an assignment during day shift unless only one charge RN is present at night
• Respiratory therapy manages respiratory equipment; RNs may monitor but are not responsible for direct management
• Team includes patient care techs with average ratios of 1:10-12
• Travelers are not permitted to work more than one year for WVU facilities before taking a mandatory two-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum of 1 year recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license for consideration
• Candidate cannot have worked at any WVU Medicine location within the past 2 years
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Must be able to titrate heparin, bumex, and lasix drips (no cardiac drips)
