Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring North Carolina or compact RN licensure, med/surg neuro experience, and prior travel assignments.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit of a hospital setting
• Primary patient population includes stroke and neurological diagnoses such as epilepsy, subdural hematomas, and neurosurgery cases
• Unit features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with training provided as needed
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6
• Unit supports 42 daily census across 43 beds
• Epic EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing system are used
• 12-hour day shifts (6:45–19:15) with preferred scheduling
• Contracts offered for 13 weeks, with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Frequent floating required to other MS/Tele areas, including potential COVID care units
• Travelers required to work every other weekend
• Receive up to 36 hours of unit orientation before beginning regular shifts
• Navy scrubs are required for this unit
• No requested time off (RTO) permitted after booking or on-site, and no Easter RTO is allowed
• If a weekend shift is missed or called off, makeup shifts will be required per unit needs
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Local and travel candidates accepted at the same rate
• Candidates with previous permanent employment at this health system may be subject to consideration rules

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of experience with at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Must have completed at least two successful travel contracts (first-time travelers not accepted)
• Current BCLS and NIH/NIHSS certifications required
• ACLS certification preferred but not required
• Proficiency in IV start, telemetry, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Med/Surg neuro nursing experience required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
