Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology night shift position requiring a NC or compact license and oncology-specific skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in a hospital cancer center with a 20-bed oncology unit
- Serves hematology, GYN oncology, and surgical oncology patient populations
- Average patient ratio is 1 RN to 4-5 patients
- Scheduled for 12-hour night shifts from 1830-0700, with a work cycle every 6 weeks
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend
- Float within the cancer center initially, then to any med-surg unit in the hospital as required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Epic EMR system is used
- IV pumps are Alaris, medication dispensing via Omnicell, and monitors are Philips
- Daily responsibilities include central line care, transfusions, symptom and infection management, and wound care for oncology patients
- Support is provided by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, and 24/7 respiratory therapy
- Central telemetry monitoring is available on the unit
- Orientation includes NEO and 2 days departmental training
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Free on-site parking is provided
- Travelers will work 75% of holidays per scheduling cycle
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Returning employees must have a 1-year gap after permanent employment at any AHSE facility
- Up to 7 days RTO is allowed, with extensions to cover a full 13-week contract if needed
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- At least 1 year of recent oncology or med/surg RN experience within the last year
- BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS required for Resource Team; OCN preferred
- Proficiency in venipuncture, IV insertion, central line access and care, wound and skin care, blood product transfusions, and infection prevention
- Experience with lab value monitoring and managing oncology-related symptoms is required
- Epic charting experience recommended
- Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB for consideration
- At least 1 professional reference from a supervisor or above dated within the past year is required
- Locals within a 50-mile radius are not eligible
