Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN for night shifts with strong Med/Tele experience and regional floating requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 27-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Average daily census of 20 patients
• Patient population includes stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed cases
• Typical RN patient ratios are 1:5-6 depending on acuity, with possibility of surge staffing up to 1:7-8
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Required to float within the regional hospital network as needed, including potential mid-shift floating with paid travel time
• No on-call or call back requirements
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Philips monitors
• Orientation includes facility NEO and two days departmental training
• Unit support includes CNAs (certified in foley and IV removal), 24/7 phlebotomy, RT, and hospitalist coverage, with telemetry tech on staff
• Charge nurse may or may not have a patient assignment
• Scrub color required is navy blue

• Returning employees must have been separated from the health system for at least 1 year after a permanent position
• First-time travelers may be considered but are not preferred
• Travelers are expected to work at least 75% of holidays

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 18 months Med/Surg Telemetry experience
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• General Med/Tele skills including stroke experience, NIH assessments, cardiac rhythm interpretation, PIV starts, trach care, chest tube management, and drain/tube management
• Experience handling cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• Critical documentation for consideration includes last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB
• At least one professional reference from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge RN within the past year
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
