Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position on night shifts, requiring Epic proficiency and a NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Typical patient population includes general medical telemetry overflow and post-surgical patients, such as bariatric, urology, GI, and orthopedic cases
• Unit has 26 beds with an RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6, up to 1:7-8 during surge
• 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Required to float within regional hospital sites as needed, in accordance with scope of practice
• No on-call or call-back required
• Epic EMR is used and experience with Epic is preferred
• Provide care for a range of complex postsurgical and medical telemetry patients
• Department support includes CNA, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
• No dedicated telemetry monitoring technician support
• Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors are utilized
• Travelers are required to work 75% of holidays
• Orientation includes NEO and two days of departmental training
• Scrub color is navy
• Free parking available on site
• Up to six days of requested time off may be approved, not including holidays, with unmet hours added to the end of the contract
• First-time travelers may be considered but are not preferred

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube and drain management, NGT placement, medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, and blood products
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Must provide the last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB for consideration
• Must submit a professional reference from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge RN, dated within one year
• Travelers must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the home unit
• Returning employees must have been separated from any facility in the system for at least one year after a permanent position
